Evelien De Winter
About
In 2000, Evelien De Winter completed her Master's degree in visual arts at the Luca School of Arts Ghent with great distinction. Within her field of study, she radically chose to make small editions of utilitarian objects. Underlying the design is a theme of interpersonal relationships. Selected by Design Flanders and representing Belgium in the Talente competition in Denmark, her artistic work quickly became known. After a period of exhibiting, she focused on teaching in which she is challenged to interact with different viewpoints. Meanwhile, her personal work evolved more and more towards objects that are still utilitarian but serve an emotional purpose. The decision to create objects that offer solace in a period of loss was a logical step in this development.
Handmade
The pieces presented here are handmade starting from own designs. The local production of unique items, in small editions and at demand of the client, ensures that there is never any overproduction.
Conscious and honest execution also invites conscious use of the object.
A moment of quiet in our fast-paced life.
The degree of finish and refinement livens up the objects and offers a quality that cannot be found in large production quantities.

Teaching
Since 2000 Evelien has been teaching ceramics to adults in part-time art education. A form of education that is only set up in Belgium. The course lasts 7 years and primarily provides a solid technical basis, from which the students step by step develop a unique artistic language. The close collaboration over a long period of time creates a connection between teacher and student. This interaction is enriching and continues to fascinate. The narrative that each person contributes is translated into visual imagery. Guiding this development creates a sense of wonder in both teacher and student.
